Sprites#
What are Sprites?#
Sprites are pieces of art for the game. They can be used for anything in the game. They are 16x16 pixels and have 32 colors, plus transparent pixel support. Sprites can be used in a row to create animations. There are 3 speeds of animation: slow, normal, fast.
TIP: You can use fully transparent (invisible) Sprites to hide things in plain sight!
For example, a Block using an invisible Sprite can act like an invisible wall. Or a Thing with an invisible Sprite can act like a hidden trigger for something to happen. Or you could use an invisible Sprite on an Item if you want a one-time trigger that won’t happen again (since they will have picked up the Item).
Sprite Editor#
The Sprite Editor allows you to edit all the sprites in your game. To edit a sprite, just click on it from the Sprites tab. The Sprite Editor will pop up.
You can change the name of the sprite at the top.
CAREFUL! Don’t get Sprites confused with other stuff that has the same name!
It’s easy to get the names of Sprites confused up with the names of Blocks, Things, or Items! For example, you might have a Sprite called
grassand a Block calledgrass. It’s important to remember that they are two different things!
You can use the pencil tool for drawing using whatever color you have selected.
The paint bucket tool will take your selected color and fill in that color from where you click until it reaches another color.
The eraser tool allows you to make a pixel transparent (see-through). The subtle white-and-gray grid you see isn’t actually color. It’s just there to mean that it’s see-through and not a real color.
If you click the trash can, it will wipe out all the color from your sprite, leaving only transparent pixels.
The horizontal flip tool will give you a mirror image of your sprite.
The vertical flip tool will flip your sprite upside down.
The rotate tool will rotate your sprite once in the clockwise direction.
The grid tool will turn on and off the little grid over all the pixels.
